Plastering in a town surveyed in 1870

Yandina was surveyed in 1870 and was the first town in the Maroochy district. Many of the original buildings and the heritage streetscape of Stevens Street have been preserved.

The town has several historic homes, including the privately owned Koongalba homestead at 12 Wharf Street, which is heritage-listed.

At the 2021 Census, Yandina had 3,073 people and 1,252 private dwellings. Of its occupied private dwellings, 932 (83.1%) were separate houses.

The Anglican church opened in 1880 and is the oldest on the Sunshine Coast. The Yandina hotel dates back to 1889.

Yandina and the Maroochy River

The name Yandina marks the first upstream ford over the Maroochy River. The town was bypassed by the Bruce Highway in July 1997.

Sunshine Coast Council's proposed Yandina - Maroochy River Local Plan Area is centred on Yandina. Other localities, or parts of localities, in the area include North Arm, Cooloolabin, Bridges, Kiamba, Ninderry, Maroochy River, Valdora, Yandina Creek, Kulangoor and Verrierdale.
